The slim green roof structure for roofs with low static reserves (0-5°).

With the LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF, roofs can be greened if their statics only allow a low load. Even when saturated with water, LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF weighs only around 55 kg/m² and is therefore significantly lighter than an average gravel roof with a 50 mm structure. The slim green roof structure is ideal for renovating older roofs without structural reserves and for large industrial roofs, for example.

The LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF system can generally be used on flat roofs with fixed waterproofing. Inverted roofs are unsuitable for the lightweight roof.

The lightweight substrate L exceeds the requirements of the FLL Green Roof Guidelines for extensive single-layer substrates.

The LIGHTWEIGHT ROOF system is suitable for 0-5° roofs and is drained via a solid drainage system (FKD).

The fruit and vegetable garden on the green roof (0-5°).

URBAN GARDENING is a special form of intensive green roof and the GARDEN ROOF and is very much in vogue. What do you need for this? All you need is a small cultivation area and a little creativity. With this system, the green roof is cultivated as a kitchen garden with useful plants such as vegetables and herbs. With a higher system structure of the green roof, it is even possible to use berry bushes and fruit trees.

With URBAN GARDENING, herbs and vegetables can be planted with a basic layer structure of at least 120 mm. We recommend a greater substrate height for berry bushes. This can be up to 400 mm. Drainage is provided by the Drainage and storage board FKD 40, which is suitable for green roofs from 0-5°.

The green roof with a wide range of substrate heights and species diversity

Many cities and municipalities have now developed green concepts that not only specify that roofs should be greened, but in some cases also how. In many cases, there are already minimum requirements for substrate heights so that a correspondingly higher plant diversity can establish itself permanently. In the area of extensive to simply intensive green roofs, the Optigrün NATURE ROOF is the form of green roof that offers a wide range of substrate heights and species diversity and can therefore also achieve the highest ecological value.

Ecological compensation areas

The NATURE ROOF is a varied and visually appealing green roof solution. With a basic system structure of at least 100 mm and partial elevations of up to 250 mm, the NATURE ROOF system offers a greater variety in the choice of plants and can even be designed as a biodiversity area. The green roof is drained via the solid drainage system (FKD), which is suitable for roofs from 0-5°.

The NATURE ROOF is an intervention-reducing measure within the meaning of the intervention compensation regulation and contributes significantly to a reduction in charges in municipalities with split wastewater charges. The NATURE ROOF meets the requirements of the FLL Green Roof Guidelines.

Varied planting with the help of drainage and water storage elements.

Thanks to its high, multi-layered structure, the LANDSCAPE ROOF enables a variety of intensive green roofs and planting with shrubs and trees. The LANDSCAPE ROOF can be used to create green roof landscapes in the middle of the city that are visually indistinguishable from green spaces at ground level. This means that green roofs in underground car parks can also be easily integrated into the surrounding outdoor facilities. Lawns and play areas, ponds, terraces etc. can be used here in the same way as with the GARDEN ROOF and PUBLIC ROOF system solutions.

The special feature of the LANDSCAPE ROOF is the use of an additional mineral layer (sub-substrate). From an installation depth of 350 mm, organic components should only be used in small quantities in order to avoid undesirable anaerobic decomposition processes.

The inexpensive and efficient green roof to delay runoff.

For extensive green roofs where a very low peak runoff coefficient is required, the RETENTION ROOF MEANDER FKM 30 is particularly suitable. With the Meander FKM 30 drainage element, the rainwater has to cover a longer flow path and is also throttled at the outlet. This ensures a significant reduction in the peak discharge coefficient.

The RETENTION ROOF MEANDER FKM 30 is an economical and efficient system for delaying runoff. The inexpensive and flat system structure is particularly interesting for large industrial roofs, for example, where it is often necessary to comply with certain discharge restrictions. The sedum vegetation we recommend is robust and requires little maintenance. This also contributes to the cost-effectiveness of this green roof system.

The RETENTION ROOF MEANDER FKM 30 is an impact mitigation measure within the framework of the impact compensation regulation. It meets the requirements of the FLL Green Roof Guidelines.

The economical green roof system with permanent water storage and run-off delay.

For extensive and simply intensive green roofs with permanent water storage and runoff retardation, we recommend our RETENTION ROOF MEANDER FKM 60. The Meander water retention board FKM 60 is used as a drainage element. Part of the rainwater is permanently stored in it. At the same time, the outflow of the remaining rainwater is delayed, as it has to travel a longer flow path and is throttled at the outlet.

The Meander FKM 60 element thus ensures permanent water storage while at the same time delaying runoff and thus reducing the peak runoff coefficient. Permanent water storage and delayed water runoff in combination with biodiversity and evaporation make the Meander FKM 60 efficient a very high-performance product.

The permanent water storage of over 17 l/m² enables significantly more lush vegetation on the green roof. This contributes to an increase in biodiversity and an increase in evaporation capacity. This promotes cooling of the surrounding area, which in turn has a positive impact on the urban climate.

The RETENTION ROOF MEANDER FKM 60 is a mitigation measure within the framework of the impact compensation regulation and meets the requirements of the FLL Green Roof Guidelines.

Better microclimate, rainwater retention and reduced runoff from green roofs.

A green roof provides a better microclimate. Our green roof system RETENTION ROOF FLOW CONTROL also keeps the water in the cities and helps to store it there. This turns the city into a sponge. Water is stored when it is in abundance so that it is available when it is urgently needed.

And this is exactly what is meant by the sponge city concept. Here, green roofs and rainwater management work together effectively and sustainably. They are an important instrument on the way to the sponge city of the future. In short: they are indispensable in the fight against the consequences of climate change.

The RETENTION ROOF FLOW CONTROL is particularly recommended for extensive green roofs with special structural requirements. The water retention box (WRB) is used as a retention and drainage element. The WRB element can be used flexibly. Depending on requirements, it can be used as a permanent water reservoir and/or as a temporary retention area to delay runoff.

The RETENTION ROOF FLOW CONTROL for extensive and simply intensive green roofs is economical and sustainable. It ensures efficient rainwater retention and delays runoff. The WRB 80F has an integrated permanent water storage tank of 6 l/m², which is independent of the throttle. The WRB 80F can be stacked inside each other and is therefore particularly easy to transport.
The RETENTION ROOF FLOW CONTROL is a mitigation measure within the framework of the impact compensation regulation and meets the requirements of the FLL Green Roof Guidelines.

The connection between intensive green roofs and the sponge city concept is actually quite simple: a green roof creates many small storage spaces for water.

Precipitation is retained and stays where it falls. Intensive green roofs also delay evaporation. The sponge city therefore absorbs water and releases it again with a delay. This improves the urban climate.

How can the principle of the sponge city be implemented in practice? This is where our RETENTION ROOF FLOW CONTROL INTENSIVE is recommended. It is suitable for intensive green roofs where there are special structural requirements with regard to flooding volume and runoff retardation.

The water retention box (WRB) is used as a water storage and drainage element. Depending on the requirements, the WRB element can be used as a permanent water reservoir and/or as a temporary retention area to delay runoff.

The water retention box for intensive green roofs is a particularly efficient system with a very high storage capacity. The WRB 85 elements are highly pressure-resistant and are connected to each other in such a way that a flat, closed surface is created. This enables the construction of intensively used roof areas with sections that can be walked and driven on.

The RETENTION ROOF FLOW CONTROL INTENSIVE is an intervention mitigation measure within the framework of the intervention compensation regulation and fulfills the requirements of the FLL Green Roof Guidelines.

Roof greening without anti-slip system.

Sloping roofs, especially wooden roof constructions, often have limited load reserves. Pitched green roofs – such as our PITCHED ROOF 5-15° – are therefore usually designed as thin-layer extensive green roofs.

For roof pitches up to a maximum of 15°, single-layer extensive greening without surface shear protection is possible on the SSV 800 structural and storage fleece. With flow lengths of more than 6 m and with smooth synthetic waterproofing, there is a risk that the green roof structure may slip, for example during heavy rainfall events, on roof pitches of 10° or more. In order to prevent this, however, constructive measures should be taken to prevent shearing.

Greening pitched roofs with anti-slip system P (Board)

Due to the often limited load reserves on pitched roofs, especially on wooden roof constructions, most green roofs are designed as thin-layer extensive green roofs. This is also the case with our PITCHED ROOF 10-30°.

The anti-slip system P is suitable for pitched and gabled roofs up to a roof pitch of approx. 30°. The advantages of the system lie in its quick installation, easy cutting to size and low price. Solid and inexpensive pitched roof greening up to 30° can be realized. For roof pitches from approx. 25°, the use of the vegetation mat fixing strip is required to secure the vegetation mats in the area against slipping.

Greening pitched roofs with anti-slip system N (Net).

The anti-slip system N is suitable for barrel, monopitch, pitched and domed roofs with a pitch of up to 45° – just like our PITCHED ROOF 15-45°. The great advantage of the system N for symmetrical roof shapes is that it is penetration-free. It does not require statically effective shear abutments. The system N is self-balancing, inexpensive and easy to install.

The anti-slip system N consists of a highly tear-resistant and rot-proof mesh. It is used to absorb tensile forces from the shear ties. The special shear sills with integrated fastening hooks are hooked into the net laid over the ridge or fixed with fastening systems. The advantage of the system lies in its ease of installation and its particular flexibility. The spacing of the sleepers can be flexibly adapted to the roof pitch. Due to the high degree of standardization, many forms of green roofs can be implemented on pitched roofs at low cost.

Pitched roofs, especially those with wooden roof constructions, often have only limited load reserves. Green roofs on these pitched roofs are therefore usually designed as thin-layer extensive green roofs.

The anti-slip system T is suitable for green roofs on all monopitch and pitched roofs up to a roof pitch of approx. 45° – as for our green roof system pitched roof 15-45°. It is very robust and can be easily walked on during installation. This makes it easier to install on steep surfaces with a roof pitch of over 40°.

Made from recycled plastic

The anti-slip system T is made of rot-resistant recycled plastic. The simple plug-in system consists of shear beams (3,250 mm long) and shear sleepers (107 mm long) with a height of 80 mm. The sleepers are inserted into each other at the required sleeper spacing depending on the roof pitch and construction height.

They can be combined with green areas on the roof. Retention traffic roofs can be used on uninsulated roofs as well as on warm and inverted roofs.

This variant of roof greening benefits the principle of the sponge city. The aim behind this is to ensure a better urban and microclimate. This is achieved by retaining rainwater and keeping it where it falls. The green roofs also delay evaporation. The sponge city thus absorbs water and releases it again with a delay. This improves the urban climate. Our green roof traffic roof retention also contributes to this.
The OPTIGRÜN-SOLAR SOLon is the ideal solution for combining with existing green roofs. The system can be safely installed in place with low loads, making it suitable for roofs with limited static reserves.

The advantages of OPTIGRÜN-SOLAR SOLon become evident when used in combination with new or existing green roofs. The vertical support frame ensures a stable supply of light and water to the vegetation, allowing the green roof to develop optimally. The energy performance of the vertical system is comparable to that of a conventional east-west green roof support frame. It can even minimize performance losses due to snowfall. Thus, OPTIGRÜN-SOLAR SOLon represents an economical solution for sustainable urban development.
