Vrilissia House Garden Construction

This project involved the construction of a shared garden within a residential apartment complex in Vrilissia, designed as a fully accessible and usable green space for residents, while prioritising water efficiency and low maintenance.

Residential Complex Garden Construction – Vrilissia

Vrilissia | Completion: 2024

At the owners’ request, the design was developed without the use of lawn, adopting sustainable landscape solutions aligned with modern water-saving principles.

Spatial Design & Materials

The garden was formed using permeable gravel surfaces, applied to both circulation paths and seating areas, allowing natural rainwater infiltration and ensuring functional, year-round usability.

A continuous perimeter pathway was created, guiding residents through all planted areas and encouraging movement, interaction and daily use of the garden.

Planting Concept

The planting design is based on a combination of:

  • ornamental grasses
  • Mediterranean plant species

These species were selected to:

  • provide seasonal foliage colour variation
  • offer extended and sequential flowering periods throughout the year
  • maintain low water demand and reduced maintenance needs

Irrigation

Garden irrigation is supported by:

  • an irrigation system by Rain Bird
  • drip irrigation with pressure-compensating emitters, ensuring precise water delivery

The system is designed with upgrade potential for remote management, allowing efficient water use and flexible control.

Project Character

The garden was designed as:

  • a low-maintenance landscape
  • a low water-consumption garden
  • a shared, accessible green space for everyday use

It represents a contemporary approach to sustainable communal landscape design in an urban residential setting.
